Chapter III-13. Search Results

(version 1.5)

This display is the result of using the "Quick Search Collections" control in the Atrium banner or the Advanced Search option on the Digital Herbarium navigation bar. The title recaps the selection criteria used to produce the results. The display consists of two tabs, Collections and Taxonomy. The Collections tab provides a Collection List of the collections found as a direct result of the search performed. The Taxonomy tab lists the taxonomic entities matching the search criteria. If no exact matches are found in the taxa, "near" matches for the term used as the search criteria are listed on the Taxonomy tab.

The Collections tab shows all the collections that satisfy the search criteria. The table layout is very similar to the Collection List on the Collections tab of the Collection/Specimen display.

Collection List: The Collection List provides basic data about the collections found as a result of the search, links to panels with more information (denoted by underlined data or words like "details" or "info") and data sorting (denoted by underlined column headings).

Control: Filters

Above the Collection List are filter fields by which the Collection List can be reduced by selecting specific values in one or more of the drop-down lists, such as collector, family, genus, species, location etc. See Chapter II-10, Reducing The Collection List Using Filters for information about how the filters work.

Figure III-13.6. Controls: Paging

Controls: Paging

Above and below the Collection List are controls for moving through “pages” of the Collection List or for presenting all the collections on one page. Paging only goes into effect when the number of collections exceeds the number of items to show per page specified in your Preferences. Here the lines per page is set to twelve, which requires 3 pages to hold the 26 collections in the search results.

Below the Collection List are additional options which are displayed based upon your permission levels. The "Export List" option creates a file with comma separated values (CSV) which can be imported into Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet programs. The "Export KML" option created a file that can be used to display the data points using Google Earth. The third option is to print specimen labels for the Collection List. Finally, the last option allows you to add the selected collections to a personal workspace within Atrium. These options appear on both the Collections and Taxonomy tabs, but really only apply to the Collections tab.
