Fruit: Fruit syncarpous, to 40 cm diameter, generally yellow when mature, formed by numerous carpels, weakly or completely fused, sometimes with small spiny projections.

Infructescence: Infructescence axillary or terminal.

Seeds: One seed per carpel, surrounded by a fleshy, white, edible pulp.

Uses: Many species cultivated for their edible fruits.

Distribution: Tropical America and the Old World, with many species introduced to Asia, Africa, and subtropical regions.

Notes: Similar to the genus Rollinia.
