Vegetative Morphology

Habit: Tree to ca. 20 m tall.

Main axis: Bark strong, fibrous.

Branch: Stem slender, brown to black when dry, smooth, glabrous.

Leaves: Leaves simple, alternate; the petioles stout, to 5 mm long, black when dry, smooth, glabrous; the lamina elliptic to elliptic-oblong, to ca. 6 x 30 cm, coriaceous, glabrous, the base acute to decurrent on short petiole or slightly asymmetric, the apex long-acuminate, the acumen to ca. 2 cm long, the margins entire; the secondary venation eucamptodromous, the tertiary venation fine, parallel, perpindicular to the secondary veins.

Reproductive Morphology

Inflorescence: Inflorescence axillary or ramiflorous.

Flowers: Flowers one per inflorescence on long pedicel, the pedicel to ca. 2 cm long.

Fruit: Fruit apocarpous consisting of a few monocarps; the monocarps ellipsoid, to 2 cm long, orange when immature, purple-black when mature, smooth, lightly sericeous pubescent when immature, glabrous when mature, the base stipitate, the stipe to ca. 2 cm long.

Seeds: Seeds one per monocarp.
