Botanical Data

Plant Notes: Common suffrutescent shrub growing in shady open slopes along road, 1-2 m tall. Usually unbranched, but sometimes sparsely branched. Base of stem woody and gray, becoming apically succulent and red. Each node with conspicuous pair of dark red glands. Leaf bases ducurrent. Abaxial leaf surface green to red with light red to dark red venation. Adaxial leaf surface dark green. Calyx and pedicels reddish-pink; sometimes with yellowish-green midsection.
