(version 1.5)
Quick Search by Family Name: The "Quick link to a family" search is located on the Atrium banner. When the cursor rests on the drop-down list, the literal changes to "loading...", and then "Choose a family". Then the drop-down list on the Atrium banner displays all taxonomic family names, including families for which there may be no collections in the system. To search by family:
Click the "Quick link to a family" search on the Atrium banner.
The literal in the field changes to "loading...", then "Choose a family."
Click the down arrow on the search control and the drop-down list of families opens.
Once the drop-down list is open, there are two ways to move up and down the list: a) Press the first letter of the family you wish to see. The selection highlight moves to the first family beginning with that letter. Use the arrow up and arrow down keys or the scroll bar to highlight the desired name. Press the Enter key to begin the search. OR b) Use the mouse pointer and scroll bar to move up and down the list. Click the family desired. The search begins when the family is clicked.
The system returns the Summary tab of the Collection/Specimen display for the family selected. Click the Collections tab of the Collection/Specimen display to see the collections for the family, the References tab of the Collection/Specimen display for bibliographic data for the family or the Images tab of the Collection/Specimen display to see images for the collections for the family.
Quick Search by Partial Taxon Name: The "Quick Search Collections" control allows you to search for part of a taxon name, like 'amaryl,' or a word or phrase in the collection description, such as 'sand'. You can also search the collections by the collection number. The Search Results includes a Collections tab listing all collections in which the word occurs or all collections with that number. The Taxonomy tab displays all taxonomic entities that include the word, including synonyms. “Near” matches are provided if no exact matches are found.
Click the "Quick Search Collections" control on the Atrium banner.
Type as many letters as desired for the word or phrase to be located. The letters can be a partial word, like 'purper', a word, like 'purple' or a phrase, like 'purple flower'. The search criteria can also be a collection number.
Click the "Search" button, or press the Enter key.
The Search Results includes a Collections tab with all the collections containing the search word or phrase anywhere in the text of the collection. Click on the collection number to see the details of the collection. Click on any of the underlined names on the Taxonomy tab to go to the Summary tab of the Collections/Specimen display for that taxon.
Browse by Taxonomy: "Browse by Taxonomy" is the first choice on the Digital Herbarium navigation bar. Select it to browse through the taxonomic levels and see the collections at each level.
Select
to begin the taxonomic browse. The Summary tab of the Collection/Specimen display at the highest taxonomic level is displayed.
Click on the desired division to continue down the taxonomic levels.
Click on the desired class.
Click on the sub-class, etc.
At any time you can click the Collections tab of the Collection/Specimen display to see the collections identified tot that taxonomic level. You can also explore the images for the collections on th Images tab of the Collection/Specimen display, details about the selected entity on the Detail tab of the Collection/Specimen display, and any bibliographic references identified to it on the References tab of the Collection/Specimen display.
You can move more quickly down the taxonomic structure by changing the display from one level displayed to two levels displayed. The controls to do this are the two page icons directly below the Summary tab of the Collection/Specimen display.
The left sets the display to one level at a time, the right sets the display to two levels. Two levels allows you to traverse the taxonomy levels more quickly, but increases the length of the page and may involve more scrolling to find the entries desired. Click "Hide empty taxa" or "Show empty taxa" at the bottom of the tab to include or exclude taxa for which there are no collections in Atrium.
Logging Into Atrium: There are certain features that require you to be logged into Atrium.
