(version 1.5)
Weather information from specific weather stations is uploaded to the Atrium system to supply rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind and other measurements over various time periods and intervals. This weather data is loaded to allow the researcher to explore the connections of environment to the botanical collections made in the field.
Weather Display: The Weather display has four main tabs: Stations, Detail, Graph and Data. In turn, the Stations and Detail tabs have two tabs themselves.
The List tab of the Stations tab shows the weather stations already in Atrium. Each station is identified by name, with the dates for the data available, and a description of the weather station.
Click "edit" in the box for the station to modify the information for the station.
Click "delete" and confirm the delete on the ensuing panel to delete the station. Click "Add a station" on this tab to add new stations to the application.
Other links for each weather station include Details, Graph and Data. These go to the corresponding major tab.
The Map tab on the Stations tab shows the stations' geographic location. You can use the map control to move in the four cardinal directions, and to zoom in and out. In addition, a click-and-hold of the right mouse button scrolls the map in any direction.
Click on the station marker to open a small window with the station name. Click the name to go to the Detail tab with the information for that station displayed. Otherwise, use the X in the upper right to close the window.
The Station Information tab on the Detail tab does not show anything until a station is selected from the Station Quick Select list or you reached this tab from the other places. If blank, select a weather station from the drop-down list. This panel displays all the information about the weather station.
Click "Edit This Station" to modify this information.
If necessary, click "Delete all data records for this station" to delete all the data records for the station.
To check to see there if additional data is available for the weather station, click "Refresh all missing indicators for this station." A confirmation panel is displayed:
Click "Refresh Station Data" to get the additional data, or click "Cancel" to return to the Weather Station display.
The Station Images tab displays any images of the station provided by the station manager.
The data for the weather stations can be represented graphically on the Graph tab. Up to three sets of data can be presented at once, although you can set the graph to show only one set of data. The colors, bars and lines are tied to the data represented. The key immediately below the graph allows you to change the data displayed and the color or line/bar changes according to the data selected.
Hovering the cursor over the graph provides a temporary window with the actual data values and date they were recorded.
The key includes the color for each data displayed, and a list of possible data types that can be graphed. This drop-down list includes all possible measures, not just those for which there is data in Atrium. Select a different data type and the click "Update." The data is retrieved and the graph redrawn to show the data selected.
Click one of the predefined time intervals ("one month", "six months", "one year", "two years", "five years", "maximum") to graph the data for that interval. The time period starts at the end point of the data and measures backwards.
To specify the exact time period wanted, you can set the Start Time and End Time, and set the Time Interval as desired. These controls are applied to all data displayed.
Click the "Show missing data indicators" check box and click "Update" to add "missing data" faintly to the graph to indicate dates for which some or all the data graphed is missing.
Click "Download graph data" and you are switched to the Data tab of the Weather Station display.
Select a different weather station to reset all the controls to the initial conditions. The dates and intervals are reset, as are the data types displayed.
This tab downloads the weather data in the Atrium system into a dataset that can be used to port the data to another software system. The Start Time and End Time calendar controls allow you to limit the data in the dataset to a specific time period. The Interval drop-down list sets the interval for the download data, and includes the options of raw data, day, week, month and year. (Selection starts some process, returns selection to day.) The list of fields returned includes the weather sensors on the station for which data has been written in the download dataset.
Select a weather station from the Station Quick Select list.
Set the Start Time using the calendar control, or type the start date in YYYY-MM-DD (four digit year, dash, numeric month, dash, numeric day of month) format.
Set the End Time using the calendar control, or type the end date in YYYY-MM-DD (four digit year, dash, numeric month, dash, numeric day of month) format.
Choose an interval.
Click Update. The number of data rows is identified on the screen.
Select the format for the data set, Tab delimited values for Excel or fixed-width text file.
Click Download Data file. The File Download panel for your browser opens and allows you to open or save the download file.
The TAB delimited file, opened in Excel, looks like this:
The text file for the same data looks like this:
