(version 1.5)
There are a number of output options for the information in your workspace. These include a field guide containing images and collection data, or the references data in the EndNote format for importation elsewhere. All of the options available are explained in this chapter.
Output Options on the Images Tab: You can create a field guide containing the images and collection data you have collected together. Click "Print Field Guide" on the Images tab of the Workspace display.
The field guide is generated a PDF format and opens in Adobe Reader in a new browser window or tab. This is a useful format for printing or publishing the collections and images in your workspace for use in the field.
Output Options on the Collections Tab: Collections in workspaces can be exported to in a spreadsheet format and used to generate herbarium labels using the "Export Data" and "Print Labels" links at the bottom of the workspace page.
The export data file contains all the data values for the collections in the Collection List in a tab-delimited format. See Output: Tab Delimited File for more information about how this kind of file is used. Information about the printed labels is available in Print Labels:.
Output Options on the Literature Tab: The references on the Literature tab can be converted to a number of output formats. Using the links below the reference table, you can create the output you desire.
Click "View Printer Friendly List" and the reference data is formatted and opens another browser window or tab. From there, you can use the File and Print menu options to print the data. The printer friendly format looks like:
Use your browser's print facility to print the list. It looks like this when printed from Internet Explorer:
Click "Download List as Rich Text File" and the reference data is formatted accordingly. The browser opens a file save window to allow you to look at or save the file. The rich text file opens in the default application assigned to the.rtf extension on your computer. Generally this is Word. The literature data looks like this in Word:
Click "Download List as PDF" and the reference data is formatted accordingly. The PDF format opens in a new browser window or tab with Adobe Reader open and the file displayed. It looks like this:
The export files usually cause the browser to open the file download window and allow you a chance to look at or save the file. You want to save the file, and remember where it is placed.
The tab delimited file is intended for use with Microsoft Excel or any software that can use that input format. Basically, the first records has the data field names separated by tabs. The rest of the records have the data values in the same order and separated by tabs. There is one data record for each row in the references table. For more information about this file type, see Output: Tab Delimited File for more information.
The ISI file is used to hold bibliographic information. See Output: ISI File for information about this type of file.
The XML file is formatted for use in software that uses Endnote Bibliography data format. See Output: XML Endnote Format for additional information about this file type.
