Chapter II-11. Searching the Library

(version 1.5)

The bibliographic data stored in Atrium is provided by team members as a resource for other team members and as bibliographic references for the publication of Atrium data. The bibliographic section of Atrium currently contains over 2000 bibliographic entries for books, reports and other publications pertaining to biology and conservation in the Madre de Dios department of Peru. The bibliographic information may be added one record at a time, or in bulk. See Chapter V-5, Add Bibliographic Information for information about adding bibliographic information to Atrium.

There are three methods available to search the bibliography data, two from the Library navigation bar, and one from the Record tab where the detailed data for a single bibliographic entry is displayed. The three methods are described in the next three sections of this chapter.

Searching for References:

  1. Select

    Biblio Search or Library

from the Atrium main navigation bar.

The Search tab of the Library display opens. This is the "Quick Search" menu option on the Library navigation bar.

  2. Type the keywords you are searching for in the data entry field provided on the Search tab of the Library display. You may enter more than one term and need only separate the terms with a space.

  3. Press the Enter key or click the Search button.

The results of the search are returned on the Results tab of the Library display. Click on any entry in the References list to open the Record tab of the Library display. This panel shows all the information for the reference clicked on the Results tab of the Library display. If no results are found, a message is displayed below the search data entry field on the Search tab of the Library display.

Advanced Searching:

  1. Select

    Biblio Search or LibraryAdvanced Search

from the main navigation bar. The Advanced Bibliography Search panel opens.

  2. Type the search values and terms you want to use in the appropriate data entry field.

  3. Click the "Perform Search" button.

The results of the search are returned on the Results tab of the Library display. If there are no results for your search criteria, the following message is displayed on the Advanced Search tab of the Library display:

Note

To start a new search, use the "Clear Input Fields" button to remove previous terms entered and begin a new search.

Record tab Search Control: Once you have the Results tab of the Library display with records listed, click one record in the References list to open the Record tab of the Library display. This tab contains a search control for further searching the Library by keyword.

Use this control to continue searching without returning to the "Quick Search" or "Advanced Search" menu items.

  1. Type in the terms to be searched for, separated by a space.

  2. Press the Enter key to begin the search.

The references found to satisfy the search terms are returned on the Results tab of the Library display. If there are no results for a search from this control, you are returned to the Search tab of the Library display.

For more information about the Library display, see Chapter III-18, Library Display.
