Habit: Lianas.

Branch: Stems green and usually with spines. Tendrils paired, arising from the petiole.

Leaves: Leaves simple, alternate, the petiole base nearly sheathing the stem, the lamina 3-5 veined from the base, the secondary venation parallel.

Reproductive Morphology

Inflorescence: Inflorescence axillary or terminal.

Fruit: Fruit a berry.


Notes: In some herbaria and old texts the members of this family are included within the Liliaceae.
