Vegetative Morphology

Habit: Typically shrubs, but sometimes becoming trees to 20 m.

Leaves: Leaves with simple hairs and conspicuously anastomosed venation.

Reproductive Morphology

Fruit: Fruit syncarpous, to 9 cm diameter, the carpels completely fused, green or brown when mature.

Infructescence: Infructescence terminal.

Seeds: Many seeds per fruit with ruminate endosperm.

Distribution: Widespread in tropical America.

Notes: Similar to Annona but differentiated by the presence of a ring at the base of the fruit formed from part of the receptacle.
