Morphological Description

Diagnosis: Stems erect or suberect, simple or sparsely branched, radiculose at base. Leaves distichous, complanate, remote to overlapping; the lower portion of the adaxial side forming two vaginant laminae; costa single, mostly stout; laminal cells usually isodiametric, plane to bulging, smooth or papillose. Setae straight or flexuose; capsules erect, inclined or pendulous, symmetric to asymmetric; operculum usually long-rostrate; peristome single, teeth 16, deeply forked, reflexed when dry and strongly incurved when moist. Calyptra cucullate or mitrate-rostrate. Spores medium-sized, rarely large.
