Vegetative Morphology
Habit: Tree to ca. 15 m tall.
Main axis: Bark strong, fibrous.
Branch: Stems densely brown pubescent especially when young.
Leaves: Leaves simple, alternate, nearly sessile; the petioles terete, canaliculate, to ca. 3 mm long, black when mature, swollen, stout, glabrous to glabrescent; the lamina elliptic to oblong- or obovate-elliptic, to ca. 9 x 28 cm, reddish-brown when dry, chartaceous to thin coriaceous, glabrous to glabrescent when young, the base acute, the apex long-acuminate, the acumen to 3.5 cm long, the margins entire; the midvein impressed above, the secondary venation brochidodromous, the tertiary venation conspicuous, somewhat parallel and perpendicular to the secondary veins.
Reproductive Morphology
Inflorescence: Inflorescence ramiflorous.
Flowers: Flowers 1-2 per inflorescence; sepals to 1.5 cm long, caducous with a persistent circular base; petals obovate, to ca. 5 cm long, often densely sericeous, yellow-brown when mature.
Fruit: Fruits syncarpous, globose, to 10 cm diam., green when mature, smooth, the pulp white, sweet, edible.
Seeds: Seeds various per fruit.
