Vegetative Morphology
Habit: Tree to ca. 20 m tall.
Main axis: Bark strong, fibrous.
Branch: Stem somewhat zig-zag, black, smooth when dry.
Leaves: Leaves simple, alternate; the petioles swollen at base, canaliculate, to ca. 1 cm long, black when dry, smooth, glabrous; the lamina broad elliptic to oblong-elliptic, to ca. 6 x 16 cm, thin coriaceous, glabrous, the base acute to somewhat rounded and tapering to petiole apex, the apex often long-acuminate, the acumen to 2.5 cm long, the margins entire; the secondary venation tighly brochidodromous with several series of anastomosing secondary veins at the margins, the tertiary venation conspicuous, the tertiary veins fine, numerous, complex, net-like.
Reproductive Morphology
Inflorescence: Inflorescence solitary, ramiflorous or axillary.
Flowers: Flowers 1 per inflorescence; sepals valvate, small, brown to green; petals imbricate, thick, green, waxy opening to expose yellow anthers.
Fruit: Fruit apocarpous consisting of numerous simple monocarps; the monocarps ellipsoid to oblong-ellipsoid, small, to 5 mm long, purple-black when mature, smooth, glabrous, the base long-stipitate, the stipe to 1 cm long, the apex short-beaked.
Seeds: Seeds one per monocarp.
