Vegetative Morphology
Habit: Tree to ca. 10 m tall or apparently sometimes a liana.
Main axis: Bark strong, fibrous.
Branch: Stem glabrous.
Leaves: Leaves simple, alternate; petioles thick to thin, weakly canaliculate above, to ca. 1 cm long, glabrous to glabrescent; lamina elliptic to ovate, ca. 7 x 20 cm, whitish glacous below, chartaceous to coriaceous, glabrous, the base acute to obtuse, the apex acute to short-acuminate, sometimes more rounded with short acumen, the margins entire; the secondary venation eucamptodromous.
Reproductive Morphology
Inflorescence: Inflorescence a fascicle, raceme, or simple panicle, ramiflorous, axillary, or opposite the leaf.
Flowers: Flowers few to numerous per inflorescence, lightly brown pubescent to glabrescent, especially when young; sepals 3, valvate; petals thick, ovate, yellow to green-yellow when mature.
Fruit: Fruit syncarpous of many carpels, ovate to ovate-elliptic, to ca. 7 cm long, glacous green, fleshy, juicy, weakly spiny when mature.

Notes: Although this species is typically a tree, we have made numerous collections of lianescent individuals in the study region.
