Morphological Description
Diagnosis: Herb to 60 cm tall. Leaves elliptic to obovate-elliptic. Inflorescence an umbel. Flowers white; filaments fused into a tube at center of flower. Fruit a capsule, orange at maturity.
Vegetative Morphology
Habit: Herb to 60 cm tall.
Leaves: Leaves simple, spiraled in basal rosette; petioles to ca. 20 cm long; lamina elliptic to obovate elliptic, to 6 x 25 cm, the base strongly decurrent on the petiole, the apex acute, the margins entire, the secondary veins parallel from the base.
Reproductive Morphology
Inflorescence: Inflorescence a scapose umbel, to 60 cm tall, the peduncle green-white, usually extended above the leaves.
Flowers: Flowers 3-10 per umbel, descending from point of attachment; corolla with elongate floral tube, white, the petals six in two whorls of 3, white, ovate to triangular; stamens 6, fused at the base to form a green-yellow staminal cup; ovary inferior, style elongate with 3-lobed stigma exerted from center of staminal cup.
Fruit: Fruit a capsule, orange at maturity.
Seeds: Seeds numerous per fruit.
