Vegetative Morphology
Habit: Small tree to 5 m tall.
Main axis: Bark strong, fibrous.
Branch: Stem smooth, brown to black when dry.
Leaves: Leaves simple, alternate; the petioles slender, to ca. 8 mm long, black when dry, glabrous; the lamina elliptic to oblong-elliptic, to ca. 7 x 17 cm, light brown to olive-brown when dry, lower surface lighter in color, somewhat glacous when fresh, chartaceous, glabrous, the base broadly acute to rounded, the apex acute to short-acuminate, the margins entire; the midvein raised above, the secondary venation eucamptodromous to weakly brochidodromous, the secondary veins darker than lamina below, the tertiary veins conspicuous, rather parallel and perpendincular to the secondary venation.
Reproductive Morphology
Inflorescence: Inflorescence solitary, ramiflorous or axillary.
Flowers: Flowers 1 per inflorescence, long-pedicillate; the sepals tiny, valvate; the petals imbricate, to 1.5 cm long, green-yellow to yellow when mature.
Fruit: Fruit apocarpous consisting of numerous simple carpels; the monocarps ellipsoid, to ca. 2 cm long, green to red when immature, purple-black when mature.
Seeds: Seeds one per monocarp.
