Morphological Description

Diagnosis: Plants small, gregarious or in mats. Stems erect, unbranched; rhizoids sparsely scattered on stem. Leaves oblong, oblong-ligulate or oblong-spathulate, twisted and contorted when dry, spreading when wet, rounded to emarginate, bluntly apiculate; lamina unistratose; margins with a narrow, red, multistratose border of cells ending just before the apex; costa slender, subpercurrent to percurrent; leaf cells smooth and thin-walled, upper cells hexagonal to short-rectangular, basal cells longer rectangular. Setae long, red-brown; capsules cylindric, erect, smooth; annulus present; operculum erect, long-rostrate; peristome teeth 32, erect to weakly twisted. Calyptra cucullate. Spores spherical, lightly papillose.
