Morphological Description

Diagnosis: Plants in loose or dense, green, yellow-brown or blackish tufts. Stems to 30 cm tall. Leaves oblong-spathulate to lanceolate or long-triangular, broadly concave or narrowly channeled, rounded or acute at the apex, weakly differentiated to sheathing at the base; margins often recurved, entire to slightly dentate; costa subpercurrent to short-excurrent; upper cells subquadrate to short-rectangular, generally papillose; basal cells usually differentiated, rectangular, smooth or somewhat papillose. Setae elongate; capsules short- to long-cylindric; annulus usually present, occasionally revoluble; operculum short- to long-conic; peristome weakly to strongly twisted, consisting of 32 filiform, spiculose teeth. Calyptra cucullate.
