Vegetative Morphology
Habit: Tree to ca. 15 m tall.
Main axis: Bark strong, fibrous.
Leaves: Leaves simple, alternate; petioles thin, to ca. 1 cm long, drying black, glabrous; lamina narrowly elliptic to slightly ovate elliptic, to ca. 6 x 16 cm, drying olive-gray, chartaceous, glabrous, the base acute, sometimes folded at junction with petiole, the apex often long-acuminate, the acumen to 1.5 cm long, the margins entire; secondary venation eucamptodromous, rather inconspicuous in comparison to other Annonaceae species.
Reproductive Morphology
Inflorescence: Inflorescence ramiflorous, terminal, or opposite the leaf.
Flowers: Flowers usually solitary; petals 3 with long-acuminate apex, green-brown to yellow-green.
Fruit: Fruit syncarpous consisting of several to numerous simple carpels, globose, to ca. 10 cm in diam., sometimes to 15 cm long, green to brown, glabrous, areolate, the surface covered with weak prickles.
Seeds: Seeds brown, shiny.
