Morphological Description

Diagnosis: Plants glaucous green, yellow, reddish or purple, dull to shiny, occasionally with a metallic luster; stems erect, sparingly branched. Leaves erect-patent, flexuose or reflexed above midleaf, ligulate, obtuse-apiculate to shortly acuminate, flattened or terete-triangular; margins entire to dentate, occasionally undulate at apex, limbidia present or absent; basal lamina with porate leucocysts in 1(-2) layers; median cross section of leaf with 3-4(-5) layers of leucocysts surrounding a central layer of mostly triangular to tear-drop-shaped chlorocysts. Setae yellowish to dark orange-red, short or long; capsules oblong or cylindric, orange to dark red; peristome teeth 8-16, smooth to vertically striate-reticulate or with semi-circular or bar-like thickenings; operculum rostrate. Calyptra cucullate, smooth, stramineous below. Spores yellow-green to brownish-green.
