To change the data for a collection, click "Edit this collection" on the Collection Data tab. The Edit Collection panel with the collection data opens where you can modify or add information. This panel looks very similar to the Create a New Collection panel as seen in Chapter V-1, Add a Collection and Specimen. The sections of the modification panel are shown below.
The top of the Edit Collection panel provides fields to enter the collection identification data. It appears that the collection number may be changed, but changes to this field are not saved.
Type the collection team. This field should include everyone on the team by one or two initials and last name, separated by commas.
Use the calendar control to set the date of collection or type the date in the format YYYY-MM-DD (four digit year, dash, numeric month, dash, numeric day of month).
Type the accession number if available.
The second section of the Edit Collection panel provides fields to describe the locality where it was collected.
Select the continent, country, region and sub-region from the drop-down lists provided.
Type the closest town name.
Type the locality summary, locality description, and locality site specific.
Type the coordinates, using either decimal degrees (DD) or degree/minutes/seconds (DMS).
Type the coordinate uncertainty.
Type the minimum and maximum elevation.
The habitat section of the Edit Collection panel provides places to put the habitat and soil data. Here the habitat is set for the collection from the drop-down list provided. This habitat selection is used to include or exclude the selection from searches and a Collection List using filters.
Type the habitat description, habitat summary and soil description.
Select the type of habitat from the drop-down list.
The botanical section of the Edit Collection panel provides places to put the botanical data for the collection, including how tall and wide the source tree is, phenology stage and the local name for the plant. You may also select the habit from the drop-down list provided. This habit selection is used to include or exclude the selection from searches and a Collection List using filters.
Type any plant notes.
Type the minimum and maximum height for the collection in meters.
Type the minimum and maximum DBH in centimeters.
Type the local name for the collection.
Select the habit from the drop-down list.
The final section of the Edit Collection panel provides places to identify the collection to a research site and project, and select a basis of collection.
Select a research site from the drop-down list.
Select a project from the drop-down list.
Select a basis of collection from the drop-down list.
Once all the data changes have been made, click the "Edit Collection" button. To exit the panel without saving changes, click the "Cancel" button.
