Morphological Description

Diagnosis: Tree to 15 m tall. Stems drying gray to black, apparently with scattered ant domatia, especially in the young stems. Leaves elliptic, to 15 x 6 cm, olive to brown when dry, weakly coriaceous, glabrous; base acute to slightly asymmetric, with one or two rows of black, concave glands near the midrib; apex acute to short-acuminate; margins entire, sometimes weakly revolute; secondary venation eucamptodromous to lightly brochidodromous, lightly impressed adaxially, raised, prominent abaxially; tertiary venation conspicuous, complex, but somewhat parallel to the secondary veins. Inflorescence axillary or ramiflorous; pistillate inflorescence solitary, ca. 1 cm long. Flowers not seen. Fruit a globose berry to 4 cm diameter, green when immature, smooth, glabrous, subtended at the base by 4 persistent calyx lobes to 2 cm long; pedicel to ca. 1 cm long. Seeds 5 or more per fruit.
