Chapter X-2. Setting Up Lists: Research Site, Project, Habitat, Habit, Collector

The administrator and certain other roles have the capability to add entries to existing drop-down lists. These include: collector, project, research site, habit and habitat. The instructions in this section tell you how to do this. For all these procedures you need to be logged in.

Research Sites: To make changes to research sites, you must be on the Research Site list.

This list is reached by:

  1. Click Digital Herbarium on the Atrium main navigation bar.

  2. Click Browse By Research Site on the Digital Herbarium navigation bar. The Research Site list opens.

Add a Research Site:

This procedure shows how to set up a new research site. Collections can be tied to a research site to allow them to be pulled out of the general population and to bypass geopolitical boundaries.

From the Research Site list:

  1. Click the "Add a Research Site" link. The Add Research Site panel opens.

  2. Type the new research site name and description. The name is required.

  3. Click the "Add Research Site" button to add the new site, or click the "Cancel" button to close the list without adding a new research site.

Change a Research Site:

This procedure shows how to modify a research site. The name and description can be modified without affecting the collections tied to the research site.

From the Research Site list:

  1. Click "edit" for the research site to be modified. The Edit Research Site panel opens.

  2. Change the research site name and description as desired. The name cannot be removed entirely as it is required.

  3. Click the "Edit Research Site" button to save the changes, or click the "Cancel" button to close the list without changing the research site.

Delete a Research Site:

This procedure shows how to delete a research site. A research site can be deleted without changing the collections tied to it. However, if the research site is set up again, all the collections will have to be tied to the research site again.

From the Research Site list:

  1. Click "delete" for the research site to be deleted. The Delete Research Site panel opens.

  2. Click the "Delete Research Site" button to delete the research site, or click the "Cancel" button to close the list without changing the research site.

Projects: To make changes to projects, you must be on the Research Projects list.

This list is reached by:

Add a Collector:

This procedure shows how to set up a new collector. Collections must be tied to a collector as part of the name for the collection. Before a collection can be added for a collector, the collector must be set up.

From the Collectors list:

  1. Click Digital Herbarium on the Atrium main navigation bar.

  2. Click Browse By Collector on the Digital Herbarium navigation bar. The Collector list opens.

  3. Click the "Add a Collector" link. The Add Collector panel opens.

  4. Type the new collector's name and description. The name is required.

  5. Click the "Add Collector" button to add the new collector, or click the "Cancel" button to close the list without adding a new collector.
